Word Press Plugin for Twitter
July 2nd, 2009So im still seeing how powerfull i can make a blog and how powerfull and easy to use wordpress is. Twitter is all over the place and now that i am tweeting (i guess that is what the cool news media calls it from what i have heard) i thought it would be awesome to have my blog post automaticaly post to twitter so all 8 of my current tweeps (wow i feel like such a douch mover saying that) can follow me easly.
So i figured there was a plugin for twitter and i was correct. There were several plugins and they did everything you can think of. I was original looking for one that would just post to my twitter account but after looking at twitter tools i realized it had several features that would also make my blog easer to intergrate with twitter posts and direct comments once my twitter grows. The Features are as follows.
Twitter Tools integrates with Twitter by giving you the following functionality:
* Archive your Twitter tweets (downloaded every 10 minutes)
* Create a blog post from each of your tweets
* Create a daily or weekly digest post of your tweets
* Create a tweet on Twitter whenever you post in your blog, with a link to the blog post
* Post a tweet from your sidebar
* Post a tweet from the WP Admin screens
* Pass your tweets along to another service (via API hook)
So i set it up and this should be my first post that get posted to twitter. looking for the other feathers if this blog or my tweeting grows. incase you missed my post follow me on twitter at @freakyfowler44
IE 6 Is The Worst

warning for IE 6
Internet Explorer 6 is the worst, yuck, for the post i will refer to IE 6 as The Yucky. As a web devoloper you have to make sure your websites and web apps run nicely in all of the web browsers out there. It always seems like The Yucky gives me the most problems, nothing every looks exactly the way i designed it and not to mention that it runs slower than every other browser and that it does have tabs and there are security issues and there is just no reason to be running The Yucky at all. I ran into an artical expressed my same feelings and had a neat little word press plugin to help with getting people off of The Yucky and into a newer browser that enhance there internet experence. This plug pops up a warning “You are using Internet Explorer version 6.0 or lower. Due to security issues and lack of support for Web Standards it is highly recommended that you upgrade to a modern browser.” and give the user a link to download several other browsers.
The plug in is called Shockingly Big IE6 Warning, which is named appropaly. Like every other word press plugin it was easy to install and easy to set up.
You can choose from 3 types of warning:
- TOP, a discreet top bar
- FULL, a fullscreen warning
- CRASH, the mean option
I choose the full warning type because i want people to be informed and go to my site but i was tempted to just crash The Yucky everytime someone came to my site. So hopefully people start to get off of The Yucky and start using a browser that will cruse you around the internets faster.

So of course i wanted michaelafowler so i go to check if it was avialble and it was taken i was like WTF mate. I wanted to know who else would take michaelafowler as a user name so i look them up on twitter and the whole time i was thinking this guy is a tool for taking the name i wanted. the page finally loads and its a girl and her name is Michaela Fowler, that hoe (not really i’m upset someone took my username that has never been taken before in all of my user registrations).
I am relatively new to twitter but i am amazed that everyone is using it and that everything intergrates with it. its such an easy concept that is so simple everyone can do it. but one thing that annoys me is all of the twitter lingo, i defantly not a fan of saying my tweeps or i was tweeting.
